I heard something about a "super moon?" a while back, what was that about?

It happens every year - it's when the full moon passes closest to the earth, so people get all hyped about it (we'll get another in August next year). The moon tends to look marginally brighter and bigger, but the effect is usually the most significant when the moon hangs near the horizon (I think it has to do with refraction - you can witness this on any night there is a full moon).
In other words, nothing to get so fuckin' excited about.

I see. Well, if that's what all the hubbub is about, then I'll go back to my regularly scheduled program.

So, anyone else catch the umbral eclipse last night? Or as the kids call it these days, the "blood moon". It was pretty freaking neat looking, if I do say so myself. (yes, those are all separate links to photos of it, knock yourself out) It happened pretty late and since it was chilly I only stuck around for a total of maybe an hour to watch the moon be fully eclipsed before heading back inside.

It's all good - we're set to get several more lunar eclipses this year, so there are many viewing chances. We're living in a good century for eclipses in general, to be honest.
