Meteor showers aren't particularly rare, but seeing one is nonetheless awesome.

I went outside last night to try and catch some of the meteor shower (apparently it was also visible then, so huzzah!). I only caught sight of one shooting star for less than a second, even after standing out there craning my neck out for a good fifteen minutes.
Maybe tonight will be better.

I caught a couple on Friday night, but none Saturday since it was too cloudy out.
The waxing moon was pretty large tonight, at least where I am. Got a nice view of the sky as I walked home from the bus stop.

Hmm, let's see here ... - Tonight, the moon will pass extremely close to Jupiter and The Pleiades - if you are a super lucky, there will be a lunar halo around them all.
- December 27th will give a Long Night Moon - it will be a full moon, rising right around sunset, and setting as the sun rises. Keep an eye out for the moon to hit the center of the Winter Circle at its peak in the sky, which is comprised of several major stars - Jupiter will hover to the right of the circle at this time, with Betelgeuse and Orion's Belt hanging below the moon.
- Don't forget that with Orion out in full swing, you can use various stars of this constellation to find other infamous stars and constellations - a star map will aid you greatly here, so do look one up.
There isn't much that can be considered very exciting these last few days of the year. January will hold some more interesting things.
