Today was the grand rerelease of Sailor Moon and the first run of Sailor V here in America. Pretty much everyone's been going psycho happy about it and, from what I've been reading about the net, bookstores across the country have been selling out of the volumes.
As for me, I haven't had the money, so I'm going to go ahead and save up some Amazon giftcards I get from Swagbucks to put towards a buying spree on them.

Update! According to the New York Times, Sailor Moon and Sailor V take up the top two slots for most popular manga in the United States, beating out all those shounen type manga that people are frequently bitching about *coughBleachNarutoetccough*.
I'll take this as a victory on our front, by which I mean, can we please get some anime rerelease over here and/or some awesome toys like Italy is?

As much as any other fan, I'm extremely grateful we've gotten anything, especially something like the rerelease of the manga. However, I do have a problem, and that's with the quality of these translations. Don't get me wrong; Kodansha did way better of a job than Tokyopop ever managed to. The problem is that the translation Kodansha did is kind of shoddy. I kinda flipped through a copy at the bookstore when I went the other day and I noticed all the mistakes that people have been pointing out and I gotta say, yes, totally grateful for this but Kodansha hyped us all up and I think us fans deserve some quality here. First off, it's like it wasn't even proofread. I mean, they've had us getting all excited for months about this and even said that the thing was fully translated right around the time the initial announcement was made. But there's spelling errors everywhere and over the same words frequently. That's not okay you guys. They couldn't have been assed to proofread it? And don't get me started on how the grammar sometimes gets really awkward and the typesetting looking like a hot mess at times. I'm certainly grateful, I can't emphasize this enough. It's just that here in the US we've always been dealt a pretty short hand when it comes to SM; everything's been so sub-par since the early days for us. We're paying good money to buy these things, we should be treated with respect and given only the best for this. Kodansha is far from a small company and SM is not an unknown series at all, and to not complain about these errors says that we don't give a damn if we're given things that aren't good quality. BUT LET'S END THIS ON A POSITIVE NOTE: MERCHANDISEWhy yes, apparently us in the States are going to get this sometime soon. WHY SO CHILDISH BUT I WILL STILL GET IT BECAUSE I LIKE ME SAILOR MOON MERCH.

well... I don't quite know how to feel about this now, I'm probably still going to be a consumer whore when it comes to something so big from my childhood

I'm definitely still going to buy them, it's just I think that Kodansha needs to know that their work on the series is an insult to both the original and to us fans who have been waiting years for this to happen. We can't just sit down and take it saying "anything we get is good" because that's like saying any company that handles SM things can be as sloppy and lazy as they want about it and we'll still buy it. We, as consumers, have a right to quality.

yes we do, but unfortunately in the situation I am currently in... it's better than not having it at all. I simply cannot afford any of this brand new right now.

Incredibly accurate, sure. Awkwardly translated and lacked in proofreading, definitely sure. In other news! Sailor Moon 1 Reprinted after 50,000 sell out!Yes, you heard right. First first issue of Sailor Moon is getting a secondary printing by Kodansha USA after the first 50,000 sold out, but whether this is at retailer or distributor level has been left unsaid. This second run will have 100,000 copies printed. The series, along with Sailor V, has stayed at the top of the charts of the NY Times list of bestseller manga (SM ran at three weeks, SV at two). Maybe Kodansha will take note of how much us fans love the series and will, I'unno, really try to proofread their shit in the future?
