Not SM related per say, but meh, they were the ones who first brought the series in manga form over here (shitty as they were) and it deserves a small note.
Supposedly it's from a combo of near-bankruptcy and the CEO ditching the company to go into filmmaking. They're closing at the end of the month.
Either way, the fans are throwing a hissy fit and wondering wtf is going to happen to running series the company has rights to, all of which are now in a state of limbo.
In the usual TP manner, the fans are not receiving any acknowledgment or answer from anyone in the company.

Oh, wonderful. A shame to see it go.

Such a staple falling... it's terrible, I've seen Geneon and ADV fall. I don't really care much for Tokyopop as much as I used to in high school, but it's still sad... I hadn't liked Tokyopop for a while because they focused more on what was popular and what they were trying to pass off as "original" material.
Even though I hated most of what they became... I still respect the company

It's only the US branch that is closing, might I add. The ones in Germany and Japan are going to remain open.

The same can be said for Geneon... only the US branch closed, but Geneon Japan is pretty much another company now thanks to the buyout and dissolving of the old Geneon

I'm kinda ... well, the only series from Tokyopop I continued to snag was D.N.Angel which I haven't caught up on in years and ... uh, Alichino which the mangaka never finished so yeah.
