Thanks to inspiration that I've seen from another user on this board, I've decided to start posting what I'm playing and I'll try to be as detailed as possible since I cannot post screenshots... I think this will be very fun since I'm the only male on this board who is active and I've got a lot to offer in terms of how the other sex thinks.
When I wake up later today, I'll post my first game...

Okay, I lied... I couldn't post my first game because I can't find the DVD. I wanted to start with my favorite sim/visual novel of them all, Natsuiro no Sunadokei (Hourglass of Summer Colors)...
Someone's been stealing my DVDs again!!!

The horror!
I think I've heard of that one, but then again I've heard of a lot of things.

5 girls: childhood friend (can die instead of the popular girl), class princess who secretly likes the main character (she dies and you have to figure out how to prevent it), a time policewoman, a freshman who swims (can be injured and even killed), and a teacher (someone who shares the same secret as the main character... she gets injured from an unknown assailant and her whereabouts are unknown if you can't save her.)
I love this game and I am really sad I couldn't start reviewing it.

Since I can't find it, I will have to move to what is in my Xbox 360 at the moment... The Sims 3.
If you've never played a Sims game, it's pretty simple... You create a person or family and you play god to help them achieve their goals or you can just find quick/creative ways to kill them off if you just want to make their lives miserable. Each game has evolved in some way, the console versions are not nearly as good as the PC versions but I don't have a computer strong enough to run any of the games let alone their various expansions.
Each console version had a gimmick though, like in the first sims game there was a storyline to follow regarding Malcolm Langrabb and his children. (Malcolm is the evil landlord/mayor who abuses his power and starts repossessing the most expensive items in each house/level you enter... when you achieve all the goals you will earn the item back and move to the next house. Mimi and/or Dudley will be your first challenge after you move out of mom's house depending on your gender... they are not your enemies for long, if you've befriended them they will help you in later homes.)
The second game, depending on the version/console you own... netted you a special item to go with the final house (aka: Lifelong dream). Mimi makes a return but Dudley does not... Malcolm is married to your mother (canon to ending of first sims game on consoles) and there is no repossession going on, just helping the townspeople with their problems. You unlock items based on the theme of the household you helped out... you can only marry people you've created on "free street" (the freeplay mode) as your involvment with the townspeople may cause more problems. Sims 2 for consoles did not have children and most fans were disappointed in it, the expansions Pets and Castaway focused more on your abilities to raise animals or survival skills. They did not sell well outside of the handheld versions (and sims 2 really sucks on handhelds). I have not played the console version of Castaway, but I own Pets and I am very disappointed in how uninspired it is... the animal motif gets old fast.
The consoles/handhelds have had their share of spinoffs too. The Urbz was a urban reinvisioning of the series, it loved to crash and only on handhelds was it truly successful due to no load times between districts. The other spinoff was Bustin' Out, this tried to bring the Sims 2 PC version's map navigation and district system to the consoles... due to insane load times the game ultimately fails to capture the PC spirit of The Sims. Another title that worked better on the handhelds, Urbz is basically an updated version of Bustin' Out... but with social groups and perks.
What sets Sims 3 PC apart from the console versions is that the console versions have Karma Powers, you can change your sim's fortune as long as you have saved enough karma points by fulfilling wishes that you pledge or doing good deeds before the midnight hour... you are penalized for abusing the powers and not doing any good deeds before midnight. Elements from the expansions made it into the console versions (excluding the most recent expansion pack that was released the same day as the console versions... I predict Downloadable Content for the PS3 and Xbox 360 later on) like the Dim Sum from World Tour and green thumb from the first sims 3 expansion. The map navigation has very few load screens and the load time is almost non-existent... the drawback is that there are a lot of load screens when you want to return home from work or a date. The Sims 3 on consoles brings back the ability to have children and even factors in the aging system originally implimented in The Sims 2 PC as well as the "Young Adult" age from Sims 2's University expansion... some fans rejoiced but I'm one of the few people who kinda wish it didn't come back, this adds insane difficulty for aging sims (I had an elderly sim who died of sleep deprivation because the babies kept him awake). Thankfully guys like me can accelerate aging with the birthday cakes now, so we won't deal with bratty kids for too long.
There are the MySims spinoffs, but I have not played them nor do I care to attempt... they are basically just versions of the Mii/Avatar games under the Sims banner. In other words, an attempt of EA and The Sims Studio to bleed more money out of the market...

The Sims 3 on consoles is the closest we're going to get to the PC version... I gotta warn you though the console version freezes a little more often than I would like

I've got an old PS2, so it loads slow... the freezing might be a bit to get used to.
